Sūtra
Correction is part of stewardship. The aim is not a clean surface but an honest one that shows what was amended and why.

Every repair changes the object. The question is whether the change can be accounted for by the next reader.

A patch is preferable to a concealed substitution when the loss itself carries information. Damage, too, belongs to history.

The archivist's restraint is technical: intervene enough to keep the object legible, and leave a trace sufficient to describe the intervention later.
